The spiritual meaning of the Birch Tree is one of new beginnings, to embrace the spiritual energy of the Birch Tree is to accept change. The Birch Tree will encourage you to accept change, accept new circumstance and accept the time is right, the time, the place and the circumstance comes together because of you. Just as the white hind will allow you to follow, just as the mighty stag will stand guard, the Birch tree stands silent in admiration and welcomes you to step forward into her embrace, the gateway to the forest and new beginnings.
The Druids reverence to this tree was such that this was the first tree in their calendar, it represented new beginnings and fresh starts, the white of it's bark was recognised as spiritual it's collective growth patterns as communal and it's use of soil encouraged new growth.
She stands at the edge of the forest to welcome you into the enchanted place. Lit by the moon her white bark and shimmering leaves offer a gentle introduction to the land of the fae. She will sometimes be flanked by a young doe who will serve as your escort as you explore for the first time. The enlightened few will be met by a white eilid instead of the doe.
The Birch is a white and slender tree, with small leaves. It is a tree for cleansing and new beginnings, not so long ago it's willowy branches were used for "birching" or "flogging" criminals as a means of ridding the criminal of evil influences and cleansing the energies after. A Birch broomstick is favoured by white witches for the pure magick it brings. The purity, new beginnings and freshness has improved many a spell.
The Birch favours damp places with water near by, she will light the way with her silvery bark and purple new grown twigs. With the Willow as a sister and the moon as allies you are in good company when you call upon her. She is a guiding light at the edge of a forest in the same way that she guides you into the forest she will guide you out, rarely does she stand alone, creating her own circle the enchanted will come. Bluebells in abundance, daisies and buttercups follow, a sanctuary for all that enter and a guiding light for those that are lost. Her gentle whispers under a full moon call to all that are looking to find their way. Known as "The Lady of the Woods" she likes to dance to the tune of the full moon encouraging all around her to do the same. When collecting her leaves, branches and twigs for elixirs, brooms or spells always ask her permission and only collect from her during the waxing moon, as such encouraging the new energy to assist you in your endeavours.
It is one of the three pillars of Wisdom (Oak, Yew, Birch) When the three stand together a new beginning, new horizon and an imminent change is going to happen and it will be for the greater good of everyone close by.

Birch Tree Spell
A simple spell to be conducted seven nights before the full moon.
Lay two Birch twigs across each other at right angles, each end will be pointing towards the four directions.
Place something very personal to you something that is very precious to you in the middle.
If you are able? then light a candle safely, light a candle and place it in the east quarter.
Recite this simple statement out loud: “I ask the spirit of Birch to send to me the wisdom to recognise new beginnings, to help me with my journey and guide me to a prosperous future. Allow my journey to be free from worry and allow my dreams to be fertilised and to work for the greater good of all. Allow my good intent to flow to the four directions and reach those that are in need. Blessings to you spirit of Birch tree, thank you for all that you do.”
Think of these words you have spoken out loud, allow yourself to see the good intent flowing to those that are in need. Take five minutes to do this or spend the day relating to these words. Extinguish the candle safely and do not leave it unattended and give grace to the light it has provided.
Give a simple salutation like bringing your palms together and disperse the energies you have created for the greater good of all.
Continue your day knowing you have contributed to a better day for everyone around you.
