Body, Mind & Spirit With this exercise we will go through the varying breathing techniques for bringing together Body and Mind and Spirit. This is a great exercise for getting grounded, for grounding energy, preparing for meditation or getting ready to go to sleep.
In a previous exercise we demonstrated how mind and body comes into alignment with breath and how anyone who has suffered a sleepless night can help them self by working with breathing exercises.
By following simple rules we can enhance our everyday lives and by understanding the basics of breathing all of us can influence the environment around us. The secrets of Bnwyfre™ are from our ancestors. Bnwyfre™ is our heritage, it’s our inheritance.
It is important to practice these exercises at the correct time and the correct place; these exercises might make you temporarily dizzy so to do them whilst driving could prove to be dangerous. Also be aware of posture and to sit or stand with back straight when doing breathing exercises.
When breathing in we breathe in through the nose and we inhale to inflate the lower part of our diaphragm, we inhale to the pit of our stomach. When we breathe out we will breathe out through pursed lips so imagine playing a trumpet or blowing a candle out. To begin with we will take quick deep breaths in and breathe out with purpose but as we go on we will allow our body to settle and the breathing will settle to it’s own natural rhythm.
The first exercise is to take 6 short quick breaths in through the nose, and hold the breath to the count of 4 then breathe out slowly through pursed lips to the count of 5
To take a quick short breath the stomach should almost jump, similar to a hiccup, if this didn’t happen then practice the quick breath. When we breathe in it is almost a sniff but we will inhale so that our lower diaphragm moves and inflates, feel the breath as it goes down the throat, down the wind pipe, down into the stomach feel the next breath the same way as it pushes the first breath deeper followed by the third that will push the second one deeper and that will push the first one deeper and so on until we get to the 6th. Imagine the breath going in travelling down the back of the lungs and going deep…
We will then hold our breath to the count of four then breathe out through pursed lips to the count of five and this time imagine the breath coming up through the front of the chest push yourself a little and encourage the breath to flow evenly, imagine there are a lot of candles that need blowing out quickly.
When we breathe out we are emptying our body of the spent oxygen, we are encouraging the air from our stomach so we will feel our hands resting on our stomachs going in as our stomach deflates, the lungs will deflate so our shoulders will come in, our head will come forward as the remaining air leaves our body. This will make the body feel uncomfortable because it is an unusual thing to do, but don’t strain the body, this is an exercise not an endurance test. Then breathe normally, allow the body to resume normal breathing make sure you are not dizzy or light headed and take a moment to compose yourself.
This next exercise is to repeat the previous exercise twice in succession but with a slight variation each quick in breath is going to be deep so by the time we reach 6 we will be totally inflated, imagine a long quick sniff and make the lower diaphragm jump as each breath goes in. After the second exercise relax let normal breathing resume and let the heart rate come back down.
At this point some people will be feeling almost a static like energy building up around the head or hands others will be feeling butterflys in the tummy and this is all good, the static like energy is a good thing and shows that the alchemy within is working.
To practice this particular exercise regularly will definitely help people who suffer with asthma or C.O.P.D. This exercise is not an endurance test it should be done to your own comfort if you need to start with four breaths and build up to 8 or 10 then this is perfectly acceptable, each of us have our limits and it is important to understand all exercise is good but in moderation.
The static like energy is actually Bnwyfre'™ (noo-eeef-ruh) it is the life force energy that was known to our Celtic Ancestors. It is our inheritance if and when we choose to claim it.
By using the tips of the fingers to lightly massage the face, the nose, the throat and cheeks, to scrunch up the face, curl the top lip, wriggle the nose, run fingers through the hair, the idea is to realize the potential and stir the Bnwyfre (life force) energies that have gathered around you.
With this next exercise because we are now aware of the importance of the quick breath and we are aware how it will disturb and stir the energies within, we are now going to work with the energies around us, otherwise known as spirit, spiritual essence or Bnwyfre`™.
To begin this exercise bring your hands in front of you as if in prayer position, so that the tops of your fingers are level with your chin and with elbows slightly away from the body.
This time when we breathe in be aware of the spiritual essence, Bnwyfre`, you will notice that the air is a little colder, fresher and it is pure.
When you breathe out try breathing from deep within, feel it leave your mouth with force, imagine playing bagpipes and the constant pressure that is involved when breathing into the instrument, also as you begin to breathe out bring your hands to your side or to the top of your stomach and finish with a long slow breath in and allow your body to settle. Close your eyes and allow your body and mind and spirit to come together as one.
Follow this with a long breath in and relax, close your eyes settle, enjoy this moment. Once the body settles the breath will be almost non existent, because the flow of energy is calm and correct the body does not need to attempt balance by heavy or erratic breathing.
The mind will be calm and more focused, the lack of busyness will be easily noticeable and almost tangible.
Spirit is very subtle and takes practice before it becomes tangible but take notice the calmness around you, your mind will not be busy, your body will be more relaxed, the air around you will seem calm. None of this is your imagination, it is all real and it has all been created by you. So keep your eyes closed and turn your palms upward and remain where you are for the next few mins or take a nap. This is a great way to prepare for meditation or a nights sleep.
Spirit, Spiritual essence, Bnwyfre`™ can be felt in many different ways. The spiritual essence of Bnwyfre'™ is the cool air you felt on the back of your neck, it is the static cloud, it is the calmness that is encompassing you now. Only you will know what it is that is different around you. But it is this essence that our ancestors recognized, it is this essence that has been missing for so long. Bnwyfre™ Life force energy.
