Why does the Avocet reveal itself now? Either by choice or by synchronicity animals/entities appear to us and can play a significant part to our lives if we recognize the significance of the timing and the appearance of the Totem. When the Avocet appears in your life or awareness: It is your time to encourage others. Simplicity is the key to everything. The laws of attraction and you attract your own kind. Be content with your own humility. You have nothing to prove to anyone.
How do I call upon the Avocet? Use natural intuition and ask it/them to come forward for you now.
One belief system is that we have at the very least 9 guides surrounding us at any one time. One for each of the four directions, one above us, one below us, one that will stand within our energy, and one that travels on each side of us through life.
The Avocet is a native to our shores, the spiritual meaning of the Avocet is one of angels appearing, where the land meets the sea meets the sky and so the power of three is also bestowed upon this bird. The fabled druids biscuit could well have been made by this bird, just as the Avocet walks among angels, it takes a skilled person to see them and understand them. Blessed be are those that are able.
Fiercely territorial and protective of its own, birds of a feather flock together is true of the Avocet. it will stay as a colony and work together as a colony defeating and chasing away any intruders.
Avocet is a humble bird that will create a nest quickly in the softest of sand, the hen will squash the sand and mould it for her comfort on the shore line, she will build defences as the tide rises and protect her young. Within hours of hatching her young will be feeding themself from the soft sand and will leave her custody just one month and one week after hatching. From first flight their acrobatics become legendary, their shrieks and dives will scare most intruders as they defend their colony. The wrath of a fearful mother will fall upon anyone who dares to intrude as she nests, wayward or stray members of her colony have perished as she will grant mercy to no one as she protects her siblings until they leave her custody.
The Avocet markings are black and white in equal amounts and with legs that turn blue with the seasons. To see things as black or white with no grey is a quality afforded to very few, to be supported on the colour of spirit makes this bird exceptional. This bird returned home to the anglo saxon shoreline after seven centuries absence at a time of the most extreme adversity. The Normans from the 13th century built sea walls and by turning salt marsh into arable land saw the Avocet leave our fair lands, the second world war in the defence of our heritage, the flooding of the fens to prevent wartime landings encouraged the elusive Avocet back to its natural habitat.
The black and white without grey brings clear definition and understanding. It is as it should be as this is the path of least resistance, it is natural, it is lore. To attempt to dilute, question or persuade otherwise will end in disappointment. The Avocet is humble, unobtrusive, loyal and true to its own nature, happy to do it's own thing and gently blend into its own background. It is happy in the knowledge that it is with its own kind and will not be persuaded otherwise. It is the perfect compliment to its own kind in its own environment. It won't compromise it does not need too.
Angels stand where the land meet the sea and the sky as does the Avocet, to walk along the Anglo Saxon shoreline at sunset or sunrise and there is a good probability of bumping into an angel. If you were to look carefully and move with the innocence of an angel then it is possible to glimpse the Avocet in natural surroundings.
