Hedgehog, Animal Spirit Guide, Oracle Card, Hedgehog number 3 of the Fire set. The spiritual meaning of hedgehog is slow but sure, take time to enjoy life.

 The Hedgehog

Key Words:
Calm - Peace - Enjoy - Fragility

What is the spiritual Meaning or Essence of Hedgehog?
The spiritual meaning of hedgehog is slow but sure, take time to enjoy life. Hedgehog trundles through life enjoying every moment, bringing calm, enjoying peace and always seeing the positives. Hedgehog trundles along with the occasional skip, singing; “Always walk on the bright side of life.”

Why does Hedgehog appear now?
Hedgehog appears when it is time to slow down; family life is too fast. Work life is too fast. Hedgehog will restore calm; bring peace and include positivity. Hedgehog is not only a trunderer, hedgehog while trundling along in its own little life ponders. Hedgehog while pondering on the dilemmas and chaotic lifestyles will simply be mindful of its own business, its own family and keep trundling. Always aware of how fragile life is and the need to maintain balance in all things.

How do I call upon Hedgehog?
Hedgehog energy will trundle into other energy with great subtlety. To sit quietly ignoring all that is going on and ask Hedgehog for help and it will be there.

With hedgehog in your life force stream expect life to slow down, calm down to a more manageable pace. Like Gaia, hedgehog works with the seasons the awakening in the spring, the joy of the summer, the preparation in the autumn and to rest in the winter. Hedgehog only works at one pace, harmony and tranquillity left in its path. The Hedgehog chooses to hibernate and chooses how long it hibernates for, this is perhaps a sign for you to choose your quiet time or maybe seek quiet time. The Hedgehog is also a solitaire, again this could mean the time for being noisy is over, take time to reflect on past relationships and take the good from them.

Hedgehog is from the Earth and as such the dryads, fae, faery people and elves all seek his companionship. As they bring the light heartedness, fun and light life that hedgehog enjoys. Hedgehog with his deep thinking is welcome on any council, frequently associated with wisdom for good cause, the heritage and ancestral wisdom that comes with hedgehog is rivalled only by badger.

The name derives from terminology used in the middle ages, heyg or hegge and hoge or hogge also further to the north of the British Isles it was known as the Furze pig, furze being a name for “Gorse,” other names include urchin and hedge-pig. It is believed the hedgehog has not changed in the last 15 million years and occupied the ancient Celtic realms including what is now known as the western society. Many medieval cooking recipes included the Hedgehog, it is also known to have been eaten by the ancient Egyptians, the Bedouins, the Romani travelling community,

The unusual thing about Hedgehogs is the longer they live the bigger they get and the bigger they get the longer they are likely to live, A full grown male Hedgehog will reach the age of eight, in captivity they have been known to reach ten. These animals are normally nocturnal, to appreciate the female influence of the moon whether it be casting out with the old or reaping reward of fresh beginnings. This animal brings fertility, new beginnings, life force streams and is encouraging you to prioritise and to cast out all non-essential mind taxing elements.

The healing qualities of hedgehog are vast from calming the mind, to thinning the blood and calming the heart. The fat from hedgehog will make a good poultice for arthritis, rheumatism and other winter ailments. The hedgehog rummages the forest floor and is perfectly camouflaged, it takes a trained eye to see. The Furze from which it gets its name can be made into a tonic which is a good elixir for purifying the blood aiding the kidneys and encouraging kidney stones to pass.
