The first chakra works with our material needs, our home, food, car, clothes etc. It is when these needs are not met that the first chakra changes size and becomes imbalanced. Moving home or changing our job would be classic examples of how outside influences can affect the first chakra. A perceived threat is the same as an actual threat, to be thinking about a career change or moving house will disturb this first chakra, this is the point where we can assist the flow of energy by taking remedial steps to maintain its purity size and balance.
The First Chakra develops from birth to the age of seven, it can be enhanced or delayed by life's experience. Once all of our needs are met this first chakra will encourage the sacral chakra to grow. A happy and contented baby that feels safe will encourage the sacral chakra to grow and will develop creativity. A perfect example could be a baby that is talking and communicating before it walks. If the Sacral Chakra opens then creativity, exploration, helping others, an awareness of others and their feelings. If the First Chakra is delayed in opening fully, because of disruption to satisfying the need for domesticity, the need to feel safe, have food, a home. The Sacral Chakra can also be delayed or unbalanced, stunted or not as it should be. The chakras once opened fully will align and find their own way to balance and harmonise with the environment. With the throat chakra opening, the base chakra will find fresh energy and re-align, balance and harmonise with the new opportunities.
The First Chakra is red and is at the base of the spine, it is the slowest moving of the seven main chakras. It is associated with roots coming from our body extending down into the earth, other names for the First Chakra are Root Chakra, Base Chakra, and traditionally Muladhara.
The First or Base Chakra is the red influence in our aura, the brighter the glow of red means the safer and more positive we feel, it also reflects the security we feel and are able to project.
Of our five human senses, enjoying the sense of smell will assist the base chakra, to use patchouli and to enjoy the sensations of this aroma will enhance the values attributed to this chakra.
The root or first chakra is paired with the throat chakra, the throat being associated with physical/spiritual communication, whilst the root chakra is physical gesture communication. The two are gentle reminders of humility, each one makes the other more effective.
Ruby, rose quartz, red jasper are crystals that can assist in the visualizations of the root chakra, to hold a crystal and to enjoy the purity, the vibration that is unique to the crystal and to then relate it to the root chakra. A crystal placed on your altar or at your bedside during sleeping will aid the vibration and help synchronise and harmonise the energy flow through the root chakra.
A simple breathing exercise that will help balance and maintain the root chakra is to take a short sharp breath in through the mouth and hold it deep in the pit of the stomach, then breathe out slowly. repeat this exercise two or three times and the root chakra will reveal itself to you as a sensation in the bowl of the pelvis.
The Root chakra promotes self awareness and to understand our right to exist and to be here. Our flexibility and to be stable in our own environment.
